Firefox 66 roll-out blocked by Microsoft PowerPoint

If you were looking forward to downloading Firefox 66, the latest web browser from Mozilla, then you may have to wait a little while longer, as the company has halted the rollout due to an issue with Microsoft’s PowerPoint Online.

According to a bug report, Office 365 owners who have Firefox 66 installed will not be able to add text to text boxes on the online version. This applies to users on both Windows and Mac.  That’s a pretty annoying bug, and it’s meant that Mozilla is pausing the rollout for all users – even those who don’t use PowerPoint Online. It’s not currently known if the bug affects other Office 365 applications or not.

Mozilla is currently testing a fix in their Firefox Nightly builds, but until then the main roll-out has stopped.

If you have already installed the build and need to use PowerPoint Online on Firefox, you can address the issue by changing the preference dom.keyboardevent.keypress.hack.use_legacy_keycode_and_charcode value to powerpoint.officeapps.live.com. Reloading the page should implement the fix.
