Xiaomi’s Black Shark 2

Last year’s Black Shark proved to be a decent, if unremarkable entry into the gaming smartphone market for Xiaomi, but now the Chinese phone maker seems set to deliver the goods with its follow-up, the Black Shark 2.

Announced today, the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 boasts a pressure sensitive 6.39-inch AMOLED display, allowing players to achieve differing on-screen actions depending on how hard they press.

That’s not the only surprise that Black Shark 2’s screen has in store, thanks to the inclusion of a Samsung-made in-display fingerprint scanner for tough biometric security.

As far as other specs gamers might appreciate, the phone’s 4,000 mAh battery can support 27W fast charging, and the entry level model comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage — or you can opt for up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It has two rear-facing cameras with 48 megapixels and 12 megapixels, respectively. The front-facing camera has 20 megapixels.

Xiaomi will start selling the Black Shark 2 in “frozen silver” or “shadow black” starting today in China, at CNY 3,200 (around $480 USD, £359 ) for the base 128GB model or CNY 4,200 (about $625 USD, £470) for the model with 256GB storage. Details are currently unavailable for an international release.
