Huawei’s New Smart Glasses

Huawei has partnered with Korean glasses brand Gentle Monster to create what it calls its first pair of “smart glasses”.

The Huawei Eyewear glasses, designed in partnership with luxury Korean sunglasses designer Gentle Monster, was announced at Huawei’s P30 smartphone launch in Paris

Key Points

• South Africa will be one of the first countries to receive Huawei’s new smart glasses.

• The glasses are set to arrive in the country in July.

• They will allow you to make calls and listen to music, and will also give you access to a “virtual assistant”.

The glasses will allow wearers to make calls, listen to music and use a “virtual assistant”.

South Africa is a priority market for Huawei, says Likun Zhao, vice president of the Huawei consumer business in Southern Africa. After Samsung, Huawei is the top-selling cellphone brand in South Africa.

The antenna, charging module, dual microphone, chipset, speaker and battery of the glasses are all contained in the frame.

Unlike Google Glass, the Huawei smart glasses do not have cameras.

The glasses are charged in a case (much like Apple’s AirPods), which avoids messy cabling. There is no word yet on how much they might cost. They will be available from July 2019.
