Microsoft today announced a new application for command-line users called “Windows Terminal,” a new updated command-line tool for Windows 10 that offers a rich user interface theme, allowing users to customize their experiences. If you’re a PowerShell, Windows Subsystem for Linux, or CMD user, you’ll appreciate the new Windows Terminal The new app has been designed to be the primary experience to use Command Prompt, PowerShell, and the different Linux distribution available with the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
Although you can already run commands from different environments using Command Prompt, the new Windows Terminal will include support tab along with theme and other customization for enthusiasts and developers.
In addition, the Windows Terminal support is expected to include support emoji and GPU-based text rendering.
Furthermore, the company is also announcing that is making the Windows Terminal as well as the Windows Console an open source project, which you can clone and modify from GitHub.
The new Windows Terminal will be available this June and will feature tab support which is something that was confirmed to be in the works a few weeks ago.
