OnePlus 7 release date, price, news and leaks

We’re expecting to see the OnePlus 7 Pro launch on May 14, alongside the non-pro OnePlus 7, at OnePlus’ community launch event. There’s a lot we already know, thanks to a combination of OnePlus’ slow drip-feed of information, and a plethora of leaks, but there’s still a lot we’ve yet to find out.

OnePlus has even told us one core feature about its next handset: the OnePlus 7 will be one of the first phones to support 5G – although this particular feature is likely reserved for the pricier OnePlus 7 Pro variant.

In terms of price, as there hasn’t been a Pro handset in the OnePlus range before there’s no real precedent for the cost. The OnePlus 6T price started at $549 / £499 and we’d expect the OnePlus 7 Pro to be more than that.

The 5G model will likely cost a further €100 (totalling roughly £730) and will see limited availability in markets such as the US, Switzerland and the UK, where 5G networks are now in place.

We know the OnePlus 7 Pro will have three rear cameras, which rumors suggest will consist of a 48MP main snapper, a 16MP sensor with a wide-angle lens, and an 8MP shooter with a telephoto lens.

As shown in the 30-second video, titled, ‘We just bought a bucket’, at one point, the line “Water resistance ratings for phones cost you money” dominates the screen, while a disclaimer that reads, “Products not IP certified. Water resistant under optimal test conditions. OnePlus makes no guarantees regarding water/liquid resistance. Water/liquid damage not covered under product warranty” runs along the bottom of frame.

The base specs fall to the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, across both the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, while both will come with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, paired to 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The Pro will also be made available as a supercharged 12GB RAM SKU (again with 256GB of storage).

OnePlus also debuted its new 30W Warp Charge enhanced fast charging technology on the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, at the tail end of 2018 and this is said to be making its way onto the 7 Pro’s rumoured 4000mAh battery too.

OnePlus is also on track to be the first phone maker to launch a device with UFS 3.0, which should ensure faster local data transfer speeds across the board, meaning quicker file interaction, reduced app load times and more. This feature is slated to appear on the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 too.

The standard OnePlus 7 won’t boast the curved 90Hz HDR-capable curved OLED display of its more powerful sibling and will instead sport a flat 6.4-inch Full HD+ OLED panel.
