Camera is good, but not great

The OnePlus 7 Pro is finally here, ready to take your portrait with its novel pop-up selfie camera.

The new OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the same chipset inside the Samsung S10+ and the latest handsets from LG and Sony. It also features an octa-core processor that OnePlus says is 45 per cent faster, and consumes 20 per cent less power, than the Snapdragon 845 found in its previous 6T flagship. In fact, the 7 Pro’s specs reveal improvements over its predecessor across the board, from battery and screen size to camera and RAM.

Continuing a trend in the Chinese brand’s handsets, the new flagship expands screen size again. The OnePlus 7 Pro sports a 6.67in QHD+ (3120 x 1440) Fluid AMOLED display, the largest ever screen in a OnePlus handset.

The new OnePlus Pro 7, pricing is attractive: between £649 and £799 depending on RAM and storage (128GB-256GB) options.

256GB+8GB RAM: $699 / £699

256GB+12GB RAM: $749 / £799

The OnePlus 7 Pro will be available from May 21st. Pricing and availability for the 5G version is yet to be confirmed.

The OnePlus 7 Pro tagline ‘Go beyond speed’ means this phone focuses on more than just clock speed, but raw performance certainly isn’t neglected. It’s among the fastest Android phones we’ve tested, tied with the LG G8 and nearly as fast as the Samsung Galaxy S10 series.

This is the most expensive phone OnePlus has ever produced, as usually the brand’s phones will be priced around the £500 mark. The price does allow for some flashy features; the 12GB of RAM means that this phone will be extremely fast, and doubled with that 90Hz screen refresh rate, is a big upgrade.

There are areas where the OnePlus 7 Pro still doesn’t quite feel like it’s on the same level as the Samsung Galaxy S10e and Huawei P30, which are all similarly priced there’s no wireless charging, no expandable storage, no adjustable bokeh blur in Portrait Mode, no IP Rating for water resistance.
