There are scores of thin and light laptops to choose from nowadays, but few of them are truly eye-catching. HP’s newest Envy models, on the other hand, are definitely going to get some looks.
That’s because they’ve got wood. Not the stick-on, fake shelf lining kind, mind you. Actual wood. It covers the palm rest from edge to edge. It even covers the touchpad.
HP plans to launch four different models: an Envy 13 and 17 notebook and Envy x360 13 and x360 15 convertibles. They’ll be called the Envy Wood Series.
HP didn’t reveal much else about the Envy Wood laptops, such as price or all the specs, but it did say they will come with 8th-gen Intel CPUs or second-gen Ryzen APUs with Vega graphics as options. The high-end x360 models, meanwhile, will have a choice of OLED screens.
Memory on these machines can be configured to up to 16GB while SSD storage tops out at 1TB. For graphics, the Envy 17, Envy x360 15 and Envy 13 will come with up to an Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU.
Other confirmed features including Amazon Alexa support, a fingerprint reader, wake-on-voice, and security methods for protecting your privacy, including a physical webcam kill switch and an optional Sure View display.
There are still lots of things we don’t know about these upcoming laptops, like pricing and specs, but their unique chassis has us excited to learn more.
