LG Pay, LG’s copy and paste alternative to Samsung Pay, has been available in South Korea ever since 2017. There have been lots of rumors between then and now regarding its U.S. launch, but now on July 16, it’s finally arrived.
To no one’s surprise, LG Pay is limited to select LG phones. At launch, LG Pay is only available for the LG G8. In the coming months, it’ll expand to the G7, V50 5G, V40, and V35. Furthermore, it should be available right out of the box with any future LG phones that are released.
Similar to Samsung Pay, LG Pay can be used at virtually any store/restaurant thanks to its combination of NFC and WMC (wireless magnetic communications).
Supported banks is rather small at the moment, with LG Pay only working with:
Chase
PNC Bank
US Bank
Regions Bank
State Employees’ Credit Union (North Carolina)
Virginia Credit Union
Still, LG Pay seems somewhat unnecessary when Google Pay already works on compatible Android devices — including LG phones. Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are also widely available for people with those companies’ handsets.
