Netflix is now offering users in India a $3 plan which allows them to stream content from the service on their mobile devices only. The plan costs the equivalent of $3 per month.
Netflix users in India are still able to get the existing Basic, Standard, and Premium plans as before. The new Mobile plan offers streaming in SD resolution to one smartphone or tablet at a time for the equivalent of $3 per month. It will also allow Smart Downloads so that users have more flexibility when it comes to watching their favorite content.
Netflix late last year said it was testing cheaper mobile-only plans in Malaysia and a few other markets. At a press conference today, however, the company said it currently had no plans to bring the cheaper mobile-only plan to other regions. Hopefully the streaming giant will reconsider as I suspect it could add millions of new members with a cheaper offering, especially in lower income markets.
