B&O doubles the battery life of its true wireless earbuds

High-end audio brand Bang & Olufsen is back with a new version of its true wireless earbuds, the Beoplay E8 3rd generation.

he new third-generation Beoplay E8 earbuds now provide a total of 35 hours of listening when used with their charging case, up from the 16 hours you’d get with the second generation, while the buds themselves can now go for seven hours without needing to charge.

This is Bang & Olufsen’s third attempt at a pair of true wireless earbuds, so at this point, it’s got all the basics down nicely. The earbuds’ case can be charged over USB-C and supports wireless charging. This year also support for Bluetooth 5.1 and the AptX standard. Bang & Olufsen also says that it’s reduced the size and weight of the earbuds to make them more comfortable to wear.

The buds also weigh 17 percent less, coming in at 5.8 grams each, and the size has been reduced. Bang & Olufsen says it has used 3D modelling to make the new E8 fit a wider variety of ear shapes, and that the design makes them more comfortable to wear.

Finally, the number of microphones in the headphones has doubled from two to four, in order to achieve what the company describes as “beamforming technology directed toward the mouth.” This should help speech sound clearer with lower ambient noise when talking on the phone.

The new E8s do come with a leather wireless charging case, but they’ll cost you a hefty £300 ($390) from the Bang & Olufsen website.
