Instagram is rolling out updates to Reels

Instagram Reels is doubling the length of videos in a new update, allowing users to make 30-second videos instead of 15 seconds.

Reels’ biggest competitor, TikTok, lets people record videos up to a minute in length. Instagram is also extending the timer from three to 10 seconds, and people will also be able to trim and delete any clip in an attempt to make the editing process smoother.

It’s no secret that Reels is Instagram’s attempt to compete with TikTok, but it’s still unclear how strong of a competitor TikTok will be in the US. While the app seems to have avoided a ban, the saga between the Trump Administration, TikTok and its owner ByteDance is not yet over. Meanwhile, YouTube is working on its own knockoff.
