Samsung aired a Galaxy Z Flip commercial before it even announced the phone

Samsung days from its first Unpacked event of 2020 but during the Oscars, we got an unexpected “spoiler.” Samsung officially confirmed the design and some features of its unannounced Galaxy Z Flip during a brief ad during the Oscars.

Without actually naming the device, an ad for Samsung Unpacked on February 11th showed off the new foldable in-depth. The brief ad shows the Z Flip both closed and open, even going so far as confirming the foldable’s crease is “normal” in the fine print.

The ad showed the phone sitting on a table at a 90-degree angle on its own, the better to do video chatting. It also gave us our first, best look at it folded up and it doesn’t appear to fold completely flat.

In the small print for the ad, there’s copy that says “You may notice a small crease in the center of the main screen, which is a natural characteristic of the screen.” So that answers that question. As with the Fold, the Z Flip will have a crease. The ad also shows two different colors: purple and black.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the company’s second foldable smartphone, this time with a more affordable $1,500 price tag. It has an internal 6.7-inch display which is taller than your average smartphone. We’ll be live at Samsung’s event on February 11th to find out if there’s anything that hasn’t already been leaked, photographed, rumored, or teased by Samsung itself.
