The PS5 arrives November 12th and it starts at $400

Sony finally announced both. The Sony PS5 will cost a whopping $500, and the disc-free Digital Edition will retail for $400. Both will ship Nov. 12 in the U.S. and Nov. 19 elsewhere.

However, players in China are facing a longer wait. “PS5 launch date for China is still under exploration and will be announced at a later date,” according to a PlayStation blog post.

Sony revealed the design of its next-gen hardware in June, six months after Microsoft pulled back the curtain on the Xbox Series X.

Microsoft announced Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S pricing and availability last week, slightly ahead of schedule after leaks gave the game away. The standard PS5 costs the same as the Xbox Series X and the Digital Edition is $100 more expensive than the $299 Xbox Series S.

During the stream, Sony showed an extended sequence from the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which did a lot to highlight one underseen element of the new system: ray tracing. Lights reflected realistically off his slick-looking suit and the wet streets. Even people’s reflections seemed to appear in the water.

We’ll hopefully know more when both consoles launch two days apart in November and we get to actually see just how good all the fancy storage devices and haptics and graphics really are.
