President Biden reveals Ford’s electric F-150 a day early in factory speech

Ford has revealed the all-electric F-150 pickup truck one day ahead of schedule. The truck, dubbed F-150 Lightning, was on display Tuesday at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan during a speech from President Biden.

Ford is on track to hold its big reveal event tomorrow, May 19th, at 9:30PM ET. There, the company will share details on pricing and final specs for the F-150 Lightning. The F-150 has long been the most popular truck in the US, and Ford says the Lightning will have more horsepower and torque than any current model.

Biden used Tuesday’s speech to stump for his infrastructure plan, which is big on electric vehicles, lithium batteries, and EV charging technology. “The future of the auto industry is electric. There’s no turning back,” he said.

Biden also focused heavily on how he wants automakers to build their electric vehicles in the United States with American parts and labor a topic that has become especially hot after General Motors announced it would build some electric vehicles in Mexico. Ford will build the electric F-150 at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, but is currently building the Mustang Mach-E in Mexico.
